Sven-Göran Eriksson received a heartfelt tribute from Sampdoria fans and former players at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, affectionately known as Marassi. The emotional reunion saw the legendary coach reconnect with stars from his era, including Roberto Mancini, Clarence Seedorf, and Attilio Lombardo, during Sampdoria's match against Serie B side Reggiana.

This visit to Sampdoria is part of Eriksson's journey to revisit clubs close to his heart, following his recent revelation of a terminal cancer diagnosis. He has expressed a desire to make his final months happy, having already visited Benfica, Gothenburg, and even fulfilled a dream of managing Liverpool for a day in a charity match.

Eriksson, now 76, managed Sampdoria from 1992 to 1997, a period he fondly remembers. During his tenure, the club achieved significant success, notably winning the Coppa Italia trophy in 1994. He also had notable spells with other Italian giants like Roma, Fiorentina, and Lazio.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Eriksson reflected on his time in Genoa: "I was here for five wonderful years and was very happy with the fans, the city and the club. We played some very enjoyable games together. I think we could’ve won more, as we played good football."

The event was particularly special due to the presence of numerous players from Eriksson’s iconic Sampdoria squad. Alongside Mancini, Seedorf, and Lombardo, other familiar faces included Giovanni Invernizzi, Alberico Evani, Fausto Salsano, Enrico Chiesa, Pierre Laigle, Salvatore Lanna, Claudio Bellucci, Pippo Maniero, and Riccardo Maspero.

The Sampdoria faithful showed their unwavering support for their beloved "Mister" with a touching banner at Marassi. It read: ‘We will support you in this battle too… Welcome back to Genoa, Mister Eriksson,’ highlighting the deep bond between the coach and the club's supporters.

This poignant gathering underscored the lasting impact Sven-Göran Eriksson had on Sampdoria, celebrating a golden era and offering a moment of shared emotion and respect between a legendary coach, his former players, and the passionate Blucerchiati fanbase.
